Hello,
We were thinking about coming up saturday and giving the track a try for the first time. I was wondering about gearing for the yamaha 100 jr sportsman class. We have not run anything simular in size to this so I dont have a clue where to start gearing. We are setup 11-73 right now and I have down to 79 gears but im not sure where to start. we have run 6-7 races so far at MRP, lansing and new castle with some friends and are looking for someplace closer to home to play.

We raced Jr Sportsman last year and typically ran somewhere around a 10/89. Sometime you would see guys run as high as 10/91 but there were often problems with sprocket clearance if you went that big. I don't think an 11 driver will get you even close. The dip in the sweeper turn has been recently repaired and should help the 2cycle guys from tearing up gears. There's 3 or 4 Jr Cans that are planning on showing up this Saturday and see how the repair has helped the track. There's typically only a couple Jr Sportsman at Palmyra so a few more would be great. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather. The forecast is showing a little rain in the evening. Hope it's wrong. Keep checking the website, Al is good about keeping people informed about weather issues.

Thanks, I have some 10 drivers in the tool box, I'll put together a couple clutches but ill have to see if I can find a couple more gears somewhere close.
My youngest has been running a box stock yamaha with a 3 hole can on the bigger tracks, not sure what Im going to do with him yet but I will set them both up and see what it looks like.
is there a beacon out for the micron usually?

There is always someone with a beacon out. As for your youngest son, Al will find a class for him to run. If it's a matter of switching to a 4 hole can for the race, someone may have a spare you could borrow. The same goes for the gears, typically if people have spares they will loan them out to keep others racing. Palmyra has a very good group of people who will lend a hand to other drivers. Dan

I just like to be as prepared as possible when I get to a track, makes my life easier! I have another 4 hole can i can throw on its more a matter of if he is ready for a little more power yet, he has only run 2 races so far and a lot of practice. With the short track and big gear i dont suppose speed will be the issue of concern like I have at the longer tracks.
We will keep an eye on the weather and see if we can get over there sat afternoon.
Thanks
