As some of you may be aware of, my Dad passed away last night from a stroke. The following is his obituary that will be in The Blade on Thursday:
Allen E. Hetzel, II, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Ebeid Hospice at the age of 76. He was born in Toledo to Allen and Gertrude (Miller) Hetzel on April 21, 1936. Allen graduated from DeVilbiss High School and the University of Toledo. He was retired from Al Com. Systems and Programming.
His memberships included the Barton Smith Lodge # 0613 F & AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, and Zenobia Shrine, where he served as past president of the Jeepsters and Temple Guards. He also was a member of the American Motorcyclist Association and Grace Lutheran Church. A favorite hobby was go-kart racing with his granddaughters at Palmyra Speedway in Adrian, MI, which he owned. He also enjoyed woodworking.
His parents and sister, Mary Roush, preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Carolyn; children, Cathy Anderson and Allen (Sandy) Hetzel, III; grandchildren, Autumn, Lindsey (Mike) Bateson and Cassie.
Visitation will be held on Friday at the Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary, 3815 Sylvania Ave. (between Monroe St. & Talmadge Rd.) from 1-8 p.m. with funeral services to be held at 7 p.m.
The family prefers memorial contributions to Ebeid Hospice, 5340 Harroun Rd., Sylvania, OH 43560, Grace Lutheran Church, 4441 Monroe St., Toledo, OH 43613 or to First Baptist Church of Wahneta, c/o Pastor Paul Dixon, 482 Elliott Rd., Bartow, FL 33830.
A special thanks to the St. Charles nurse, Connie, and all the others who took care of Allen. Also a special thanks to the Ebeid nurses and staff for their special care and attention.
